Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program

D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teach children in 5th and 6th grade, prior to going to Jr. High School, how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.

The Quincy Police Department currently has two sworn officers certified to teach D.A.R.E: Officer Amber Haistings and Officer Luke Humke.

The Focus of D.A.R.E.

  • Provide accurate information about tobacco, alcohol and drugs

  • Teach students the necessary decision-making skills

  • Show students how to resist negative peer pressure

  • Suggest healthy alternatives to alcohol and tobacco use

  • Build confidence and self esteem

  • Focus on awareness, education, and prevention of bullying involving students at school, in the class and on the playground, and after school
